We bought our character home 20 years ago and began to update it project by project. We did some of the major project, furnace, plumbing, kitchen, bathrooms, roofing, garage. My husband had worked in the industry and had grown up renovating homes. We had renovated all homes we lived. Replacing the windows was a project that was near the top of the list but just never got tackled. Our renovating stopped after my husband was diagnosed with cancer, and sadly, after 3 year battle he passed away. I made the decision to continue to finish some of the projects on our renovating list and chose windows first. I found a well recommended and very personable contractor and did the windows in 2 stages, main and upstairs last fall and basement this spring. Early this Spring I contacted Val Sandum from Made in the Shade and we set up a time for her to come by and she brought books of samples and her expertise. She hauled the samples books into my house and we went room to room and selected window coverings to match the decor and price range I was looking for. The blinds were ordered and installed in 2 weeks. While I was waiting for the upstairs blinds my window contractor was replacing the basement windows. I was so impressed with the quick response time and easy installation of the upstairs window coverings. The day of the upstairs installation Val and I went downstairs and selected window coverings for my basement windows. I was having my daughter and grandkids from northern Alberta come for a visit on the long weekend and was hoping to have my blinds installed and the rooms in the basement ready for their visit. Spring is a busy time, the ladies from Made in the Shade were up for the challenge. Kerri called me and said she had a cancellation. We were able to set up a time during my work day. I met her at noon at my house. She came with her ladder and tool kit as Val did earlier. She very skillfully installed my basement widow coverings and they are beautiful. It is amazing how changing the window coverings can change the appearance of a room. Many of my window coverings were designed to do two things, block the sun out in our warm summer months, in an effort to keep my house cool, and let in the light the rest of the year while still having some privacy. Thank you Val for helping me achieve exactly that. I am very pleased and will recommend Val Sandum and Made in the Shade.
